We are most alive when we’re in love. John Updike
It is estimated that over 100 million songs have been recorded about love. And love is the main focus of the heart chakra. It seems as a race we are obsessed with the idea of love. Nothing feels as good as love or as painful when things go wrong. Quick off the top of your head how many love songs can you think of. The first three that came to my mind are
All you need is love
Love is all there is
Love will find a way.
The lower three chakras are about our physical bodies and earthly life. As we move up into the heart chakra, which is the mid-point between our Heaven (our crown chakra) and Earth (our root chakra.
In its balanced form, the heart chakra energy is something of beauty. It is about unconditional love, compassion and forgiveness. Remember that beautiful high feeling of falling in love? Suddenly the world is a lovely place, everything is lighter and more colourful, and every sound is like a love song.
However, when it is out of balance, it can get very, very messy. Unrequited love can be a painful experience. Leading to feelings of sadness, unworthiness, being unlovable and unloved, depression and in the worst extreme, even suicidal thoughts.
In its most authentic form, love is not ‘romantic love’ for another person, but it is love for self and the world around us. An open heart chakra can give us that gooey falling in love feeling, but instead of that feeling being fixated on one other person it is for all of life. You fall in love with being alive, and it’s not something that can be taken away from you. You want everyone around you to share in your joy, and people are naturally drawn to your warm, loving energy.
